Minimally V, though this can only occur word-initially; other syllables must have an onset. Codas may be a single consonant or an approximant plus a consonant, with the restriction that if the approximant is pharyngeal, only /s ɕ/ may follow.
This language has a voiceless pharyngeal fricative and a voiced pharyngeal approximant. The approximant is so classified in part due to its not patterning in the same way as other fricatives do with regards to word-initial allophones.
