Gevey divides nouns into classes based on an animacy hierarchy:
» 'causative' nouns - people, animals, spiritual entities, physical (often cataclysmic) natural events, some body parts, emotions
» 'applicative' nouns - everything else

The sexual gender of a noun, if required, can be demonstrated by adding a gender particle to the noun (or pronoun). Verbs and modifiers are not affected by the sexual gender of their subject or head noun

Gender is typically based on the phonology of a morpheme - words that can be declined for any gender have different declensions to account for the phonological necessities of gender.
